On April 5th, the East Side Youth Sports Foundation (ESYSF), in partnership with the Detroit Bulldogs Hockey Club, hosted Hockey Night in Detroit — an unforgettable day that combined the best of youth hockey with community celebration. The event kicked off with a morning of games on the ice and transitioned into an evening of food, drinks, scholarship presentations, and a silent auction at Watermark Bar & Grille in St. Clair Shores.
Thanks to the generosity of attendees, donors, and sponsors, the event raised $24,409 in support of our shared mission.
This funding directly supports a number of meaningful initiatives across our organization:
- Bulldogs Hockey Program Expansion: Our youth hockey program continues to grow — not only in numbers, but in opportunity. The Bulldogs are building something special, including a burgeoning girls program that’s opening the doors to more inclusive competition and leadership on and off the ice.
- Rink Upgrades at ESH Arena: As a year-round hub for hockey and community activities, keeping the East Side Hockey Arena in top shape is a priority. These funds help with ongoing maintenance, equipment upgrades, and creating a welcoming, safe space for athletes of all ages.
- Access to Hockey for All: One of ESYSF’s core missions is breaking down the barriers to entry for hockey, a sport that has traditionally been expensive and exclusive. These dollars go toward equipment assistance, scholarship programs, and subsidized ice time so that any child with the desire to play can step on the ice — regardless of financial background.
We’re proud of the vibrant community we’ve built at ESH Arena, extending far beyond hockey. Our rink is home to a wide range of members, including Thrive programming, which helps ensure that everyone — even those who don’t play hockey — feels connected to the space. From adult fitness classes to open skates and school partnerships, ESH Arena is a welcoming hub for all.
In short, this fundraiser wasn’t just about one night — it’s about the future of community sports and youth development on Detroit’s east side. We’re proud to be part of something that brings people together, builds confidence in kids, and strengthens neighborhoods.
To every person who bought a ticket, placed a bid, or simply showed up to support: thank you. Your impact is real, and it stretches far beyond the scoreboard.
