The East Side Youth Sports Foundation and Detroit Bulldogs Hockey Club are proud stand alongside John McSorley to continue a meaningful tradition of recognizing excellence both on and off the ice through the Jack McSorley College Scholarship Award. Originally established in 1994 by the Grosse Pointe Hockey Association, the scholarship honors the life and legacy of Jack McSorley, a dedicated player and referee whose passion for the game and commitment to others left a lasting impact. Today, the award continues to celebrate student-athletes who reflect those same values of hard work, leadership, and character.
This year’s recipient, Audrey Reynolds, exemplifies everything the scholarship was created to represent. Audrey began her hockey journey more than a decade ago in the Learn to Play program at ESH, and over the past 11 years, she has grown into a well-rounded athlete, leader, and student. Through her experiences in the sport, she has developed a strong personal philosophy centered on effort, resilience, and accountability. Whether facing setbacks or achieving success, Audrey has consistently relied on hard work as her foundation, a mindset that has carried over into every aspect of her life.
Her impact extends far beyond the rink. Audrey has dedicated significant time to giving back to her community, logging more than 150 hours of volunteer service in recent years. Much of that time has been spent helping younger players in the same Learn to Play program where her own journey began, demonstrating a full-circle commitment to the sport and the next generation. In addition to volunteering, she has balanced multiple jobs, including working at the rink and at a local law office, while remaining actively involved in several school organizations such as National Honor Society, Fishing Club, and Gardening Club.
Academically, Audrey has maintained an outstanding record, earning over a 4.0 GPA while taking on a rigorous course load. Her dedication in the classroom reflects the same discipline and focus she brings to athletics. As captain of the Grosse Pointe South girls hockey team, she further demonstrated her leadership abilities, guiding her teammates through a challenging season and learning valuable lessons about communication, adaptability, and leading by example. Her leadership style, rooted in positivity, effort, and support for others, mirrors the core principles of the Jack McSorley Scholarship.
Looking ahead, Audrey plans to attend the University of Michigan, where she will study history with the goal of pursuing a career in law. She also intends to continue playing hockey and representing her school at the next level. Her ambition, combined with her strong foundation of values, positions her for continued success in whatever path she chooses.
The Detroit Bulldogs Hockey Club and East Side Youth Sports Foundation are honored to recognize Audrey Reynolds as this year’s Jack McSorley Scholarship recipient. Her journey reflects the true spirit of the award, and her future undoubtedly carries forward the legacy that Jack McSorley left behind.
