DETROIT, MI – In what may go down as one of the most impactful charity games in youth hockey, the cast of Shoresy faced off against the Red Wings Alumni Association at Little Caesars Arena to deliver an unforgettable event for fans and youth alike.
Jared Keeso, creator and star of Shoresy, along with his talented team, kicked off their six-city tour to promote the upcoming season of their hit show with a special stop in Detroit, aptly known as Hockeytown. The game, held Monday November 11th at Little Caesars Arena, was not just a celebration of hockey but also a meaningful fundraiser for the Eastside Youth Sports Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing access to sports and athletic programs for Detroit-area youth.
“Before arriving in Detroit, I received a call from Kara, the show’s producer, informing me that the Eastside Youth Sports Foundation and the Detroit Bulldogs had been selected as the beneficiary of the funds raised at the game,” said Paul Fayad, Board Member of the Foundation. “It was an honor to know that the proceeds would directly support our mission of providing equipment, ice time and scholarships for young aspiring hockey players.”
Young players from the Eastside Youth Sports Foundation’s own U8 Bulldogs and Muskies had the unforgettable experience of taking the ice during the period break, skating under the lights of LCA with all eyes on them. Jared Keeso, in his Shoresy referee jersey, called the mini game which ended with a top shelf penalty shot from Muskies #21 Charlie Posby. In his first interview after stepping off of the Red Wings ice, Posby commented, “It was pretty cool to play on the big ice and I can’t believe I scored a goal.”
The reaction from the Bulldogs organization as a whole was nothing short of grateful for this opportunity. “The kids were thrilled. It was such an exciting moment for them,” Fayad noted. “Seeing their faces light up on the ice—it’s what this foundation is all about, creating those opportunities and memories.”
The night was a unique coming together of three essential groups: the Shoresy cast and crew, the Red Wings Alumni, and the LCA staff. “It was like three legs on a stool,” said Fayad. “All three parties came together to put on this incredible event and with the support of the fans and those who bid on the silent auction items, the foundation received the immensely generous gift of $22,000.”
Funds raised during the game will go toward scholarships and financial assistance for children who want to participate in sports but may face financial barriers. The Eastside Youth Sports Foundation supports programs at the ESH Ice Arena and beyond, giving young athletes access to quality training and team experiences.
“It’s a privilege to work with partners like the Shoresy cast and the Red Wings Alumni,” said Fayad, “When I asked Jared (Keeso) at the end of it all, “Why do you guys do this?” he simply responded, “Because hockey players give back.”
